Over 140,000 companies and millions of people rely on Checkr for AI verification in the moments that matter most: getting a new job, a new place to live, a car ride, childcare, even a date. Customers include Uber, Pennymac, Airbnb, Doordash, and Anthropic. We’re a team that thrives on solving complex problems with innovative solutions that advance our mission. Checkr is recognized on Forbes Cloud 100 2025 List and is a Y Combinator 2024 Breakthrough Company . About the team/role Truework, recently acquired by Checkr, provides access to crucial employment, income, and asset information needed for mortgage loans, apartment rentals, background checks, and more. We are disrupting a $5B+ industry, dominated by legacy incumbents and outdated processes, with a better product and intense customer focus. As the Senior Engineering Manager for Mortgage, you will lead the entire Mortgage engineering team, which consists of 16+ engineers, as the head of engineering for Checkr's mortgage business. You'll own the platform end to end, from the APIs and integrations core, to the AI/ML models that power verification decisions, to the customer-facing product experience. You will report to the VP of Engineering, with direct visibility to the executive leadership team, for the mortgage business line. You will run engineering the way a business owner runs a P&L: partnering with product to set the roadmap, setting the technical roadmap, owning delivery against growth targets, and building the team that takes our mortgage product to the largest lenders in the country. You will work as a peer to the business leadership, jointly accountable for hitting the numbers that matter, and directly responsible for the architecture, systems, and people that make that growth possible. This role is ideal for a leader who has built and scaled high-performing engineering teams of comparable size across both new product development and production systems at scale, who stays hands-on with technical execution and architecture as the team grows, and who's comfortable working in the business as well as on it. Familiarity with mortgage lending or a comparably regulated, high-stakes industry is a plus, particularly the ability to translate technical tradeoffs into board-level business decisions. The decisions this team makes affect real people's ability to get a mortgage, the stakes and the scale are real, and so is the room to make an impact fast. You will be an important part of an elite, professional, and rapidly growing cross-functional team that succeeds through collaboration, grit, and learning.
