About the Role & the Team
Customer Engineers on the Digital Native Enterprise team work with Cloudflare's most innovative and high-growth accounts — Cloud-native, technologically advanced companies building at internet scale. This role focuses on both the acquisition of new Digital Native accounts and the expansion of existing ones. The ideal candidate is a builder with a deep technical foundation and a commercial mindset, capable of engaging from the engineer in the weeds to the executive in the boardroom — across Application Development, Performance, Security, and Infrastructure.
As a Customer Engineer, you are a technologist embedded within the GTM organization. You own the technical relationship from initial discovery through onboarding, adoption, renewal, and expansion. You'll be delivering architectural value and measurable business outcomes across the entire customer lifecycle.
You will report to the Regional Customer Engineering Leader and partner closely with your aligned Account Executives.
What You'll Do
Technical Validation (Pre-Sales)
Lead technical discovery, design bespoke architectures, and deliver compelling demos and Proofs of Concept (PoCs) across Cloudflare's portfolio — Security, Networking, and Developer Platforms
Build technical champions and executive relationships within target accounts
Represent Cloudflare at industry events, developer communities, and cybersecurity conferences
Customer Adoption & Value Realization
Serve as the primary technical contact from contract signature through full platform adoption
Lead and oversee technical onboarding and implementation — you are the engineering relationship, not a handoff
Proactively monitor customer health telemetry, resolve integration bottlenecks, and ensure rapid time-to-value
Commercial Accountability & Expansion
Carry a variable quota tied directly to new business acquisition and ongoing account growth
Identify and drive strategic cross-sell and upsell opportunities grounded in platform usage data and customer business objectives
Lead technical Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) that translate platform metrics into C-level ROI
Trusted Advisory
Maintain continuous, deep relationships with key stakeholders — from engineering leads to CISOs and CTOs — throughout the entire customer lifecycle
Advise on architecture best practices, security posture, and Cloudflare platform strategy aligned to customer business goals
What We're Looking For
Required
Deep understanding on The Life of a Request on the Internet
Experience in a customer-facing technical role: Solutions Engineering, Customer Engineering, Sales Engineering, or Forward Deployed Engineering
Broad technical expertise across: web security (WAF, DDoS mitigation, TLS, Zero Trust / SASE), networking (BGP, DNS, SD-WAN, MPLS, TCP/IP), and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Exceptional communication and presentation skills — equally fluent in a whiteboard architecture session with engineers and a strategic business review with the C-suite
AI-Native Development: You have integrated AI-augmented workflows (e.g., Windsurf, OpenCode) into your daily development cycle to accelerate prototyping and delivery.
Preferred
Hands-on experience with Cloudflare's Developer and AI platform: Workers, Workers AI, AI Gateway, Vectorize
Applied AI knowledge: prompt engineering, LLM orchestration, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures
Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or Go — able to write integration scripts, API connectors, and edge computing functions
Familiarity with CDN, reverse proxy (WAF), forward proxy (SWG), and serverless application patterns
Hands-on experience building cloud-based applications
Experience building relationships and driving technical wins across multi-stakeholder, enterprise accounts
Bonus Points
Cloudflare platform certifications or meaningful hands-on deployment experience
Exposure to DevOps, security operations, or emerging GenAI trends
Relevant industry certifications (cloud, security, networking)

What Makes Cloudflare Special?
We’re not just a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company. We’re a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company with a soul. Fundamental to our mission to help build a better Internet is protecting the free and open Internet.
Project Galileo : Since 2014, we've equipped more than 2,400 journalism and civil society organizations in 111 countries with powerful tools to defend themselves against attacks that would otherwise censor their work, technology already used by Cloudflare’s enterprise customers--at no cost.
Athenian Project : In 2017, we created the Athenian Project to ensure that state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, so that their constituents have access to election information and voter registration. Since the project, we've provided services to more than 425 local government election websites in 33 states.
1.1.1.1 : We released 1.1.1.1 to help fix the foundation of the Internet by building a faster, more secure and privacy-centric public DNS resolver. This is available publicly for everyone to use - it is the first consumer-focused service Cloudflare has ever released. Here’s the deal - we don’t store client IP addresses never, ever. We will continue to abide by our privacy commitment and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.
